Pros: -Nice, large screen
-Good sound (when properly configured)
-Keyboard feels great
-Great value for the price
-wi-fi card gets great signal - I get full signal strength from 2 floors above the access point.
-volume buttons are easily accessed just beside the keyboard.
-2 microphones - it can record in stereo, which sounds great. They are also very sensitive and can be adjusted through the sound software.
-Though I have never had to use it, it has built-in backup software that can backup to CDs/DVDs, as well as restore the factory programs/settings.

Cons: -Graphics card gets hot sometimes
-CD drive button sticks out a little - I accidentally open it frequently.
-only 2 usb ports (slightly annoying but I can use a usb hub if I need more)
-no pc-card slot (the slot for wireless internet cards). This is not too troubling, however, since I never use them.

Overall Review: I have owned this laptop for 6 months now, and I still love it and get compliments on it all the time. My particular model includes a 2.2Ghz core 2 duo T6600 and currently has only 3GB of RAM. It is sleek and shiny, but also has the brawn to run virtual machines, 3-d modeling software, and just about anything I throw at it.
I think my hard drive is slightly defective or something - it makes me run chkdsk, the windows disk diagnostic frequently but I would not allow this to affect your decision. It is an anomaly, and any other laptop is just as likely to get this kind of problem.
Overall it is a great computer. It is an Enhanced Experience Laptop from Lenovo, meaning it is optimized for Windows 7. It starts up and shuts down very quickly, and the graphics card is very powerful. Never underestimate the value of a good graphics card.

Ownership: 1 day to 1 week
Pros: The Nvidia 240m graphics card is no doubt great for gaming. I had this laptop over a week now and it is still going strong. So far no hardware issues that are coming up .
Cons: -Bloat-ware
-No CDs???
-Tends to get warm from the graphics card. (laptop cooler is a must for gamers,)
-Short battery Life
-The glossy screen is a fingerprint nightmare(expect anti-static wipes for this laptop)

Overall Review: I still gave this laptop five stars because the laptop itself was meant for gamers. This laptop is not for anyone who is going to it for work. This laptop was meant to be used by gamers. As for the cons, i really didn't mark it down as `true' issue (other then the fingerprint issue). Bloat-ware is easy to remove, The OS is backup on a different partion of the hard-drive). The battery life is really short but if your going game on a laptop, chances are you are always going to be connected to an AC adapter.
I highly recommend this laptop to anyone who is going to game and do not want to break your bank account.

Overall Review: There are some things I really like about this laptop. Fairly light, looks nice, video card able to play most games low intensity games, Oblivion runs fine for example. The biggest problem is very low resolution. In addition I need to replace my power supply already which is inconvenient. If I had payed full price (got it open box) I probably would have returned it. I would recommend wiping it clean after purchase. I found the facial recognition software especially useless. By the time it recognizes your face you could have typed your password 10 times.
Ownership: 1 month to 1 year
Pros: Very capable dedicated graphics card. It played Modern Warfare 2 at over 60 fps at low quality settings. With higher quality settings, it would be at 30-60 fps. League of Legends would always play at 60 fps. The frame rate would sometimes change between 59-60 fps but mostly at 60 fps. When installing programs and other stuff it is reasonably fast. Using Windows 7 update performs much faster and it does not seem to hog system resources or make the laptop non-usable, meaning I could still do other things on the laptop without it lagging or skipping. The wireless card works great and very smooth, I have not had any drop in connection so far. The 4GB of DDR3 RAM is very useful and fast. I can open multiple programs without any problems. The speed is greatly appreciated on this laptop. The webcam works like any other average webcam. It's good for video chat. The current CPU is great. I believe it is of the Penryn series and uses low wattage. The battery life is over 3-4 hours long.
Cons: As a reviewer mentioned before, this particular laptop attracts a lot of dust. In places such as the screen, keyboard, and trackpad area. Though, I am not too sure if it happens to the other series of Lenovo laptops. The laptop comes with pre-installed programs or as many would say 'bloatware', which I find unnecessary for my use. Some are the face recognition software (for security purposes), the alive idea (an active background that shows time of day), and some others you may find if you purchase this laptop. I kept Lenovo's energy management software (even though microsoft has its own energy management), easycapture, slidenav, mediashow, onekey recovery, and Power2Go, because I think those are necessary. Especially Lenovo's energy management software, do not remove it because of some driver problems it may cause. The trackpad has mini-bumps instead of a smooth surface that many other laptops use. It feels weird at first, but you get used to it.
Overall Review: Battery life is dependent on what energy management setting you use and also what you are doing while the laptop is unplugged such as watching videos, browsing the web, and downloading. Uninstall programs correctly, I've read that just deleting stuff doesn't work effectively and may cause problems with this laptop. The OneKey Recovery featured on this laptop is only used for emergencies such as restoring your laptop and windows 7 back to its factory state, meaning that your laptop will be brought back to the way it was when you first got it.
Since I'm a graduate student in college, I wanted the best laptop such as a high-end video card, quad-core, 8GB of RAM, 1TB HD, and high-end hardware. Now that I've gotten this laptop referred to me by a good friend of mine, I realize that I would under-use my dream laptop because I do things like web-surfing, some gaming, listening to music, writing papers, making presentations and watching movies on this current laptop. A good decision overal

Lenovo Ideapad Y550 Windows 7 Download
Cons: no S-video out
sometimes holding a finger on the clickers under the touchpad you bump the pad on the corners very slightly and it still affects the mouse
stupid veriface thing at login screen can take it off however
-the biggest con I have with this laptop, is the touchpad seems to cut off if you use the keyboard at all and takes a second or so to react after switching back to it. Takes a while to get used to but cant be frustrating.

Overall Review: doesnt get too hot, browsing web and listening to music the cores stay around 38-40 and GPU around 50. Havent played games yet. battery is around 2 hrs 45 min or so browsing the web.
There is a button above the keyboard beside the slidenav that switches between normal sound and movie watching- on normal its about the same as normal laptops, on movie mode it gets about as loud as a TV can.

A fair entry level device for the price2/2/2010 2:38:01 AM
Pros: The price is right, the LCD display is crisp and bright, and it gets good 4 hours of typical use (word processing, email, low animation web surfing) out of a full charge from the batteries, and the 320GB harddrive has plenty of room for photographs, media files, documents, and virtual machines. This is a fair entry level device for the price. My customer service experience with the warranty department was good.
Lenovo Ideapad Y550 Sterowniki Win 7Cons: At the time of my purchase, Lenovo touted the CPU's virtual extensions but disables VT in the BIOS. At present the VT extensions are not available nor has the vendor indicated any intent to release a BIOS that makes them available. The touchpad is extremely sensitive off to the edges which sometimes causes work to be completely selected and deleted or the mouse pointer to fly off in random directions. The vertical resolution is only 768 pixels which is rather small considering today's HD media and information crammed web pages. Overall Review: My Y550 was bought direct from Lenovo approximately 6 months ago, it came with the Core-2 Duo 2.53GHz CPU, integrated graphics, 4GB RAM (expandable to 8GB), and a 320GB harddrive that unfortunately just failed, but Lenovo is replacing it at no cost since the laptop is still under warranty. Due to the sensitive nature of the touchpad, I recommend using a mobile mouse with this laptop if possible, disabling the touchpad altogether.
Over all, this is a fair choice for the economic minded buyer, ideal for students or casual users on a budget, the CPU offers enough processing power to support processor intensive functions such as gaming and multimedia editing and system resources are enough to run several virtual machines simultaneously if there are no other processor intensive operations in progress.
I would not buy this model again based on the lack of virtualization extensions and the sensitive nature of the touchpad, but those are my pet peeves and not meant as a slam of the prod Through the Newegg EggXpert Review Program, Newegg invites its best reviewers, known as EggXperts, to post opinions about new and pre-release products to help their fellow customers make informed buying decisions.Click here for more details.
